Dr. Sparks is a Thoracic Surgeon specializing in rib disorders, lung cancer, lung nodules, hiatal hernias, acid reflux, esophageal motility, and robotic thoracic surgery.
Dr Sparks performs most lung resections robotically although he also does open surgery and thoracoscopic surgery. Robotic lung resection enables a better lymph dissection, less pain, and shorter length of stay than traditional open thoracic surgery.
Dr Sparks performs lung biopsies using the Intuitive Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy platform. The Ion allows for precise localization and biopsy of lung nodules and the procedure is done completely asleep with no incisions.
Dr Sparks has extensive experience treating slipping rib syndrome and other chest wall disorders from his prior job as a thoracic surgeon in the military treating injured soldiers. Fractured costal cartilage, slipping rib syndrome, flail chest, and rib fractures old and new. He uses minimally invasive techniques as well as both titanium and flexible plates to reconstruct the chest wall.
Dr Sparks offers all procedures for treatment of hiatal hernia and acid reflux to include laparoscopic fundoplication, magnetic sphincter augmentation, transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF), extended anatomic gastropexy, transthoracic hiatal hernia repair, robotic hiatal hernia repair, and redo hiatal hernia repairs. If you have had a previous hiatal hernia operation and are not happy with your outcome, Dr Sparks has experience with redo operations and managing these complex problems.
